Let's get started

Canal, Burton Angling, Marston's stretch, Burton Upon Trent

The very first time i started fishing was the day my friend said he was going down the canal to catch some small fish. I thought i wouldgo down with him just to see if fishing is for me, and since that day i try and go fishing as much as i can when i get the days off work. We were only on the canal for no longer than 1hr and a half and we had caught a fair few fish from perch, gudgeon, roach, tench, small bream and also small common carp. Since i only had a couple of goes because i was practicly poaching because i had no liscences, but i still caught my very first perch and ever since that day i've always fished.

When we finished on the canal i went straight round to the Burton's angling society and signed up to have a canal liscence, and then i went to the post office and brought a rod liscence to. The next day i went down with a little kingfisher canal rod with a cheap leeda reel and if i remember 4lb line and a size 16 or 18 hook, and i had a pint of maggots and bread crumb ground bait.

That day i was all geared up and ready to hit the canal, i stayed on the stretch of canal for 2hrs and i caught around 20 small fish and my very own biggest record which was a 1lb common carp which i was bursting for joy for. The fight the little nipper gave me was amazing because i was using such a light outfit i also had my very first 1lb chub out of the same stretch to.

Canal fishing is great for beginners just starting up i highly recommend it to anyone because even if you don't know really how to fish, you can't really make a huge mess of canal fishing.
